In 1962, South Africa’s first president and activist Nelson Mandela was arrested in South Africa for inciting worker’s strikes and leaving the country without permission.

Also in 1962, today was the day the world lost Marilyn Monroe at the age of 36. She was found dead in her home in Los Angeles after an overdose of sleeping pills.

U.S. rock band Aerosmith signed a $125,000 record deal in 1972 after CBS Record’s President Clive Davis saw them perform at Max’s Kansas City in New York.
