Feeling depressed? It could be your pill

The pill revolutionised women’s reproductive health and is currently the most popular choice for contraception in Australian women.

Many of us are familiar with the common side effects of the contraceptive pill, such as bloating, nausea, headaches, and mood swings, but studies are increasingly showing evidence that it could cause depression.

Professor Jayashri Kulkarni, a Professor of Psychiatry at Monash University, speaks with Breakfast’s Tom Mann about the pill’s effect on the brain.
