On this day in 1960, Stanley Kubrick’s historical epic Spartacus premiered at New York City’s Demille Theatre. The film follows the Thracian gladiator Spartacus who during the third servile war led a slave revolt against the Roman Empire.

In 1993, Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan announced his retirement from the NBA. This decision to retire was because he no longer had a desire to play the sport, especially after competing in the 1992 Olympics as part of the United States “Dream Team”. He also said that the death of his father was also large factor in his decision 

In 2020 last year, Van Halen guitarist and songwriter Eddie Van Halen passed away at the age of 65 from throat cancer. Van Halen is remembered as one of the era’s most prolific guitarists and pioneered the tapping technique.
