In 1986 the Space Shuttle ‘Discovery’ lifts off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral. This is the first manned space mission since the space shuttle Challenger disaster two and a half years ago.

In 1923 the British mandated Palestine, an event set in motion by the Balfour Declaration of 1917. The British mandate for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine was approved by the League of Nations

In 1961 Australia’s first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, was born in Wales.

And in 1984 Prince and The Revolution’s song “Let’s Go Crazy” peaked at #1.
