‘Opening Night’ on Community Stage: Return of Cult Classic The Producers

Posted on: Fri 9 Jul 2021

The fortitude found among community theatre circles will bring a cult classic musical back to life. Mel Brook’s The Producers, renowned for its satirical and daring comedy, has seen various adaptions over the years, from the original film in 1967, Broadway in 2001, through to a revived screen play in 2005.

The narrative surrounds a fading Broadway producer and his accountant who develop a scheme to create a huge flop, cheating their backers out of millions of dollars, however, their show proves to be a huge success.

Directed by Matt Smith, Marie Clark Musical Theatre is set to perform The Producers to an Adelaide audience from July 16, showcasing a diverse, local cast, the strength of community production and a comical display of musical theatre.

President of Marie Clark Musical Theatre, and actor, Ben Todd, along with actor, Lucy Trewin, spoke with Festival City’s Emma Wotzke to offer insight into their experiences with this production.

Presented from 16 July to 24 July at the Arts Theatre.
