Congolese beatboxing, a sax and electronic beats

Posted on: Fri 4 Jun 2021

You can usually find the guys from Mabiina Party at house parties or festivals, setting the room on fire and getting people moving until they’re just about drown in their own sweat. Today, we’ve got them in the studio to demonstrate how they create their music.

Because here’s the catch: they never rehearse. Everything they do is a spur of the moment, a connection with the audience, sweet, sweet improviation.

We talk about dancing in reflective clothing, Congolese music traditions, bush doofs, and the language of improvisation.

Catch our chat and their in-studio performance below.
