On this day in history:

In 1789 the state of Pennsylvania ends the ban on theatrical performances.

This was after a 30 year ban on theatre, due to religious groups believing it distracted people from worshipping God.

Also on this day in history, Queen Victoria narrowly escapes assassination after an insane man attempted to kill her.

This was the eighth time she avoided an assassination.

The Sound of Music was released on this day in 1965. The film underlines how the strength of togetherness, love and community can prevail over the horrors of wars.

The soundtrack is passed down through generations and loved by many.
