Rio Tinto closing aluminium smelter in New Zealand

Mining conglomerate Rio Tinto announced last year it was closing aluminium smelter Tiwai in August this year due to high energy and transmission costs, but now it will keep operating until the end of 2024. What will be the impact of closing Tiwai on the local community?
