Today in 1841, Adelaide’s Queen’s Theatre opened and its first performance was Shakespeare’s Othello. The Queen’s Theatre is the second oldest theatre in Australia, following Tasmania’s Theatre Royal in Hobart.
Also, in music history, on this day in 1992, Nirvana made their first appearance on Saturday Night Live. They left a mark: after performing their hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” they played “Territorial Pissings” for their second song, then trashed their instruments and anything else they could find on stage.
