The beginning of this year has been tumultuous for Australians affected by the bushfires nationwide. And the governmental response has left citizens craving more control.

Crises can often bring about a rise in civic engagement, which encourages the revitalisation of democracy.

Anne Tiernan, Professor of Politics at Griffith Business School at Griffith University, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Zoe Kounadis to discuss the impacts this engagement has and will have on society and governmental policy.
