On this day in 1967, Australia voted in favour of a constitutional referendum which benefited Indigenous Australians by counting them in the national census.

While in 1997, the first all-female team successfully reached the North Pole.

From a music perspective, in 1958 Neil Finn from Crowded House was born in his native New Zealand.
