Reality of detention on Manus Island

In an exclusive interview, Kurdish novelist, journalist and asylum-seeker Behrouz Boochani spoke to The Wire‘s Annie Hastwell from detention on Manus Island about his new book No Friend But the Mountains.

Translated to English from laboriously tapped-out WhatsApp messages in Farsi, No Friend But the Mountains details Boochani’s five years of incarceration on Manus Island after fleeing Iran to seek asylum in Australia.

Behrouz Boochani spoke to Annie Hastwell via video link from Manus Island with translator and collaborator Omid Tofighian in the Radio Adelaide studio.
