A number of women have succeeded in their candidacy for the recent South Australian council elections, including the appointment of Sandy Verschoor as the new Lord Mayor of Adelaide.

Meanwhile, NSW leader of the opposition Luke Foley has resigned after allegations of sexual misconduct were levelled against him in NSW parliament, against the wishes of the ABC journalist involved.
