New report shows economic benefit of increasing Newstart

Posted on: Thu 20 Sep 2018

A new report has found that increasing the rate of Newstart and related payments will give a boost to Australia’s economy and improve the wellbeing of those living in regional communities.

The Australian Council of Social Service commissioned Deloitte Access Economics to model the economic impact of increasing these payments by $75 per week.

Dr Cassandra Goldie, Chief Executive Officer at ACOSS, explains the findings to Small Change‘s Lisa Burns. We also hear the voices of representatives from SACOSS, Anti-Poverty Network SA and the City of Prospect, who held a community action outside the Local Government Association of South Australia office, to support the release of the report.
