New Zealand Transport Minister Scandal

Posted on: Mon 28 May 2018

New Zealand transport minister Phil Twyford has landed himself in hot water after making a phone call on board an aircraft after the plane’s doors had shut.

Mr Twyford apologised unreservedly for the incident and offered his resignation to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Ms Ardern expressed her deep disappointment in Mr Twyford but declined his resignation offer, instead opting to strip him of the Civil Aviation Authority portfolio.

New Zealand correspondent Lachlan Balfour joins Breakfast‘s Tom Mann to discuss this and other news from across the Tasman.
