New Zealand Budget

Posted on: Mon 21 May 2018

New Zealand’s first budget of Jacinda Ardern’s prime ministership has been unveiled, with a strong emphasis on tackling social inequality by increasing spending in health, education and housing.

However, the government has been heavily criticised in some quarters for insufficient spending in other key areas, and are said to be running the risk of alienating voters.

It has resulted in protests at the University of Auckland, with students unhappy with underfunding of libraries.

New Zealand correspondent, Lachlan Balfour, joins Breakfast‘s Tom Mann to review the budget and its implications.
