Working in emergency child support

Posted on: Sat 5 May 2018

In 2016, more than 45,000 children were living in ‘out of home’ care across the country. Children may be in this situation for various reasons. Usually, they have been taken out of their biological parents’ care because of some kind of emergency.

Jessica O’Connor works in Adelaide for an emergency service organisation and is responsible for caring for children in need.

Lily Waterhouse spoke to Jess about the challenges involved with caring for these children and the strategies she employs to look after her own mental health.
