Could MDMA be used as medication?

Posted on: Mon 9 Apr 2018

MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, could become a legal form of treatment for psychiatric conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) in the United States, thanks to recent research.

The final clinical trials to evaluate whether MDMA should be a form of psychotherapy are being conducted but that does not necessarily mean it will become a legal medication.

‘We’re still in early stages… lots of medications fail the final stage,’ says Dr Gillinder Bedi from the University of Melbourne.

Dr Gillinder Bedi joins Tom Mann to discuss the benefits of MDMA as a medical treatment and some of the issues that need to be addressed if it is legalised.
