Is Facebook’s business model incompatible with Human Rights?

Posted on: Wed 4 Apr 2018

Facebook has had a rough few weeks and academics are concerned about the way their business model is structured and whether it is compatible with human rights.

Professor Sarah Joseph, the director of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law at Monash University says, ‘This level of micro targeting… of being able to target people based on certain personality traits is unprecedented and I think that it could lead to an unprecedented level of manipulation of society. The business model is based on gathering up our data, and I have concerns about whether that is a good idea.’

Professor Joseph joins Breakfast’s Tom and Casey to discuss.
