Protecting young people’s rights in residential care

Posted on: Fri 2 Mar 2018

The Guardian for Children and Young People is an independent statutory office dedicated to promoting the interests and safeguarding the voices and needs of young South Australians who live in out-of-home care.

Recently, the Office carried out some work whereby young people in residential care were asked about what they knew about their rights and how they thought they could be best protected.

Guardian Penny Wright joins Small Change’s Ross Womersley in studio for a chat about this work, her role as Guardian, how residential care has changed over the years, and the over-representation of Aboriginal children and young people in the system.
