Medibank ditches fossil fuels

Posted on: Sun 19 Nov 2017

Health insurance company, Medibank Private, has announced its intention to commence divestment from fossil fuels, in acknowledgement of the health impacts of climate change. This follows their announcement earlier this year that they will reach carbon neutrality in their own operations by 2018.

Doctors for the Environment Australia has long advocated for health organisations to review their investments considering the overwhelming evidence of harm to human health from fossil fuels.

For an assessment of Medibank Private’s policy decision, Barometer’s Des Lawrence speaks to Dr Helen Redmond, divestment co-ordinator for Doctors for the Environment Australia.
