On this day;

In 1960, Jack Paar, host of The Tonight Show of 2 years, staged his unscripted walk-off after his controversial toilet joke was pulled from the air.

In 1990, Nelson Mandela, major activist against the South African apartheid, was freed from prison after 27 years in the brutal Robben island institution and house arrest.
