On This Day;

in 1954,  The USS Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear submarine, was commissioned by the U.S. Navy. The USS Nautilus broke numerous submarine travel records and could remain submerged for almost unlimited periods because it only needed a small quantity of nuclear fuel.

In 1955, 24-year-old actor James Dean is killed in Cholame, California, when the Porsche he was driving hit another car at an intersection.
