Peter Clarke, Veteran: Korean War

Posted on: Mon 16 Sep 2019

They were poorly rationed and starving, yet fought in the first military action of the Cold War, after 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People’s Army poured across the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the north and the pro-Western Republic of Korea to the south.  The National Service call-up in the UK saw hastily trained 19 year old lads heading off to fight in this brutal Korean War of 1950/1953.  Peter Clarke was one of those young men.  It still figures prominently in his memories.
