State Opera explores doomed love

Posted on: Sat 29 Sep 2018

Written by Henry Purcell and inspired by Virgil’s Aeneid, Dido & Aeneas details the fateful love affair between Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, former Trojan prince now stateless hero on his own destined path towards founding what would become the Roman Empire. Theirs is an all-consuming and dangerous connection with the most tragic of consequences.

Lisa spoke with Artistic Director Stuart Maunder to find out more about the State Opera of South Australia’s modern take on this classic tale under the direction of Nicholas Cannon along with the conducting talents of Luke Dollman.

Dido & Aeneas is showing at Plant 4 Bowden.
