Donations sought for 4WD for PNG earthquake relief

Posted on: Wed 28 Mar 2018

A few weeks ago on Small Change, we met Yukuli Paia, who is the facilitator of a project to transfer hospital equipment from the old Royal Adelaide Hospital to communities in Papua New Guinea.

Yukuli was visiting her home country in late February prior to the transfer, when a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit PNG, devastating five provinces in the central area of the country, including the community where she grew up.

For the time being, the trip to transfer the equipment is on hold.

Yukuli is now working to raise funds to purchase a 4WD to travel safely along the dirt roads damaged by mudslides, to and from communities and remote villages that have not yet been reached by helicopter.

Yukuli speaks to Small Change’s Ross Womersley about the extent of the damage, what she was confronted by when she finally made it back to her parent’s village, when she plans to have the equipment transferred, and how we can help the relief effort.

If you’d like more information or to make a donation, visit the Fulcrum Aid website or get in touch with Yukuli via SACOSS on (08) 8305 4222.
