Review: Thrones! The Musical Parody by David Cavanagh

Hi I’m David Cavanagh and I’ve been to see Thrones! The Musical Parody at Umbrella Revolution in The Garden Of Unearthly Delights.

Once again television’s most successful series comes in for the Fringe treatment. Last year we had the outstanding Graeme Of Thrones and now we have Thrones!, newly updated to include Season 7. Presented by Baby Wants Candy from the USA, this is an hour  which encapsulates all seven seasons, includes most of the characters, including the dragons – very cleverly portrayed using window blinds and an umbrella. In fact, all the costumes and props are made of regular household items, including a shower curtain, bathmats and an easy chair. Even Donald Trump gets a look-in, joining the Night’s Watch to discuss making the Wildlings pay for The Wall.

All six performers have good, strong voices, and they, quite literally, throw themselves into their various roles. Be warned, however, that, like the program, this is an adults only presentation with plenty of strong coarse language. And without giving too much away, Game Of Thrones author, George R .R Martin makes an appearance at the show’s conclusion, finishing it off in fine style.

Thrones! The Musical Parody is presented as part of the Adelaide Fringe and runs at Umbrella Revolution until the 18th of March. Check your Fringe Guide for details.
