Close The Gap: Not Working

Posted on: Wed 14 Feb 2018

It’s coming up to the 10th anniversary of the Rudd government’s apology and the launch of the ‘Close the Gap Strategy’. The government vowed to close the gap in life expectancy and health inequality for Indigenous Australians by 2030. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is set to hand down the 10th annual report card on the strategy.

Why hasn’t the Australian government succeeded in closing the health gap to date? And will they succeed by 2030 if they continue on their current course?

Co-chair of the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples, Dr. Jackie Huggins, joins Tom Mann to discuss the strategy and what needs to change.
