On this day in 1882 Thomas Edison created the first strand of electric lights for Christmas. However, it would take another 40 years for them to become the popular tradition they are now.
Also, on this day in 1931, Diego Rivera opens an art show at MoMa in New York.
Finally, on this day in 1984, Madonna’s ‘Like A Virgin’ reaches number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
