On this day in 2004, the European Union announced they will add Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia to the EU.

Former Iraqi president, Saddam Hussein, was captured by US forces during operation Red Dawn, on this day in 2003.

And today is Christopher Plummer’s birthday. He is well-known for his role as Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music.
