Ask “R U OK?” Today

Posted on: Fri 15 Sep 2017

In 2009 Gavin Larkin set forth on a mission with simply one question on his mind: “R U OK?”

After the devastating loss of his father to suicide in 1995, Gavin wanted to try and protect other families from going through the same pain.

September 14th 2017 marked the eighth R U OK Day here in Australia. The campaign has had a remarkable impact so far, emphasising how one conversation can change a life.

Sadly, however, research shows that 1 in 3 people don’t feel comfortable in asking someone “R U OK?”

Izzy Evans went and spoke to Brendan Maher CEO of R U OK and Vicki McCoy Counselling Service Manager of Student Life at The University of Adelaide, to get more information on how to ask someone these three simple words.
