Young Rupert

Posted on: Thu 17 Aug 2023

Way back in 1958 in SA an Arrernte man Max Stuart was sentenced to death. His life was saved after a long battle by a small determined group of people including the young owner of the evening newspaper. It’s the story at the heart of Young Rupert, a new biography about the early life of Rupert Murdoch and especially about his time in Adelaide, where he took on the government, the police and the lethal racism of the time AND secured the economic basis of his media empire. Walter Marsh is the author of this very readable and extraordinarily well researched book, which began about 10 years ago as an honours history thesis at Adelaide Uni.
