Protect protest in Sth Australia

Posted on: Fri 10 May 2024

Climate protestors/defenders in Adelaide now risk fines of FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS legislated one year ago just after SA Mines and Energy minister told a major fossil fuel conference that this state is “at their disposal”. Protests outside the conference centre included an abseiling from a traffic bridge. The next day the SA Labor government introduced 60 fold increases to the fines that could be imposed for peaceful protest. Thursday May 16th the Protect Protest rally and march and sit down will confront and test this government. David Mejia-Canales is a Senior Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre with the job of protecting democratic freedoms.
