Is it a good idea to raise the starting age for primary school?

A recent proposal to the NSW government suggests all students begin primary school in the year they turn 6 to prevent many children having to repeat reception. Critics are worried, however, that this could have a strong negative impact on already disadvantaged families.

Breakfast’s Kate Johnson is joined Amanda Niland from the University of Sydney to discuss these proposals and unravel what can be done to streamline school entry.
