Unhemming Fabric Waste with Upcycling

Posted on: Tue 25 Oct 2022

Upcycling – you may be familiar with the term, or perhaps you have become involved in the movement?

The growing trend of upcycling is quickly becoming a popular alternative for converting waste products or old materials into creatively repurposed items for both practical and artistic reasons.

From stitching curtains into dresses and crafting blankets into jumpers, a six-year journey upcycling fabrics, has seen local maker and creator, Anne Te Kiri transform the forlorn and forgotten to renewed and revived in an effort to reduce fabric waste that threatens our planet.

Anne spoke with Festival City’s Emma Wotzke to share more on her approach to creative practice, what it means to play a role in waste reduction and where her journey with fabric upcycling all began.
