South Australia’s pastoral lands comprise most of the north-east lands of the state – about 40% of South Australia’s land area. They are run by pastoralists as grazing properties under lease from the Government – but the Liberal Party is proposing a new Act to govern pastoral lands – and the Nature Conservation Society of SA – and others – are concerned that this will weaken ability of pastoralists to undertake conservation on their land, as well as allowing overstocking. Barry Mitchell spoke to Patrick O’Connor, NCSSA president.
