On This Day – 27th of August

In 1955, The Guinness Book of Records was first published. The idea of the book was that it could be used to settle friendly disagreements at the pub and be given away for free as marketing for Guinness.

In 1964, the Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke Disney classic Mary Poppins was released. It was an incredible feature film debut for Julie Andrews winning her an Oscar for Best Actress.

In 2012, the song ‘Thrift Shop’ by hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring rapper Wanz was released.
