In 1940, The air battle known as “The Hardest Day” occurred during the Battle of Britain. The conflict which took place over British airspace was initiated by the German Luftwaffe in an all-out attempt to take down the RAF Fighter command to pre-empt an invasion on the United Kingdom. It is known as one of the largest ever air battles with both sides suffering heavy losses.

In 2017, Civilian researchers led by Microsoft Co-founder Paul Allen re-discovered the Portland class heavy cruiser: the USS Indianapolis.
The search team located the wreckage of the sunken cruiser in the Philippine Sea lying at a depth of approximately 18,000 ft.

In 1969, Jimi Hendrix closed out Woodstock with a performance of “Hey Joe.” and his famous instrumental rendition of the star spangled banner. He played at 9am in the morning to a crowd of 200,000 people.
