Streets of our Town: Joel Zimmerman

Posted on: Sun 16 May 2021

‘Streets of Our Town’ is a new segment where we meet the local makers, crafters and creative minds who are single-handedly shaping the arts scene on the streets of this town. We discuss their inspiration, their process and why they do what they do.

In our third edition we meet Joel Zimmerman, who’s been making sculptures from scrap metal since he was a teenager. He also paints with plastic, a technique he’s established himself after a lot of experimenting.

Here, he takes us into his studio to talk about is childhood on a farm out bush, using trash as an artistic tool, and the value of re-inventing yourself as an artist.
