On this day in history:

In 1913, the first foundation stone of the new city of Canberra was laid. The wife of the Governor-General, Lady Denman formally named the new capital Canberra.

In 1989, computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee presented his first proposal of something called an ‘information management system’, what later developed into HTML, to his boss at the CERN.

In 1948, American singer-songwriter and five-time Grammy award winner James Taylor was born.
