ON THIS DAY – MARCH 10

Posted on: Wed 10 Mar 2021

On this day in 1952, General Fulgencio Batista led a military coup in Cuba after failing to secure the country’s election.

It wasn’t until the end of the Battle of Santa Clara led by Fidel Castro that Batista fled to the Domincan Republic, ending his regime.

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first ever phone call to his assistant Thomas Watson.

The first words ever spoken on the telephone were “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you”.

In 1964 “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel was first recorded at Columbia Studios in New York City.

The song featured on the album Wednesday Morning, 3 AM
