Waiyirri: An exploration of loss and connection to country

Posted on: Thu 8 Oct 2020

A corset in the red dirt: that vision is one of defining images that Kate Bonney could not get out of her head while writing Waiyirri. It’s a short film set in colonial era South Australia in which an English settler’s wife and First Nations woman develop an enduring connection through shared grief and loss.

Writer/Star Kate Bonney and Co-Director/Editor Charlotte Rose spoke to Isabella Carbone from Festival City about the intensive research process, community consultation and extreme weather conditions that contributed towards the film.

Waiyirri is premiering at the Adelaide Film Festival on October 19th as part of the Made In SA segment, check out the website for tickets and more details.
