Killing environmental defenders

Killings of environmental defenders have doubled over the past 15 years to reach levels usually associated with war zones, according to a study that reveals how murders of activists are concentrated in countries with the worst corruption and weakest laws.
The study attempts to identify the most important drivers for the murders of environmental and land defenders.
To examine this issue Barometer’s Des Lawrence speaks to one of the study’s authors, Dr Nathalie Butt from the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Queensland.
