Bushfires and prayers

Bushfires of unprecedented number and ferocity are raging in New South Wales and Queensland. Residents in some regions now know that the fire danger has become a “catastrophic” reality. One rural fire chief said bluntly “It’s where people die.”

This crisis has provoked a wide ranging dialogue, covering the issue from aspects such as the role of climate change, what the science is telling us, the policy priorities of governments. To discuss her recent article on this issue, Barometer’s Des Lawrence spoke to Janet Stanley, Associate Professor at the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute, University of Melbourne.
