Dan O’Brien: WW2 Veteran Herbert Gardner – Small Ships

Posted on: Mon 14 Oct 2019

Born in Queensland in 1926, Herb has led an eventful life which included service during WW2.  He went to work with the Remounts in Townsville at age 16, and when he heard that he could join the US Army Small Ships Section, serving up into the New Guinea Region, he signed on and was off on the Tug Boat WT1 into the war zones of New Guinea.  He’d just turned 17 years of age.
