The Accidental Activist of the Roe 8 campaign

Most people outside Perth don’t know this important story of the huge and successful campaign which saved 5km of precious wetlands and untouched bush. Roe 8 was a planned extension of the Roe Highway, but it was delayed and eventually stopped in 2017. Over 300 people were arrested in that campaign. One of those “Wetland Warriors” was social worker Carole de Barre, who never planned on being arrested. Another was poet Nandi Chinna, recent winner of the Writers Fellowship at WA Premier’s Book Awards
