Identify and Modify Bill

Posted on: Wed 8 Sep 2021

Last month, an amendment bill was passed giving additional powers to Australian law enforcement such as the AFP and the ACIC.

The Surveillance Amendment legislation (Identify and Modify) Bill allows for these agencies to change, copy, and delete data during serious investigations into cyber crimes.

While this is an attempt towards bringing our laws more into the digital age, many are worried that it could be a step too far.

Lecturer of Computing and Security at Edith Cowan University, Dr James Jin Kang, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Zoe Kounadis to discuss this controversial decision.
