New Supermassive Black Hole Image

Posted on: Fri 23 Jul 2021

International group Event Horizon Telescope has taken a new detailed image of jets of plasma being ejected from the core of a supermassive black hole in our nearest giant galaxy, Centaurus A.

The image was taken using an international network of seven radio telescopes placed across North and South America and Antarctica.

Dr Phil Edwards, a program director of the Australia Telescope National Facility at the CSIRO, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Paul Davies to tell us more about the image what we can learn from it.
