In 1989, a student leader of the Tianamen Square protests, and one of China’s best-known dissidents, Wang Dan was arrested and imprisoned by the Chinese government for spreading “counterrevolutionary propaganda and incitement”.

In 1998, the world-renowned novel “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” was first published and received universal acclaim.

In 1990, Madonna’s ‘Blond Ambition’ tour was condemned by Roman Catholic groups as blasphemous due to her use of crucifixes and Christian symbols alongside sexual themes and imagery.
