On this day in history:

In 1938, both issue number one DC Comics’ Action Comics was released along with the first appearance of Superman in a comic book.

Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman is considered to be responsible for starting the superhero genre.

Also in 1994, the US Ice Skating Federation barred American figure skater Tonya Harding for life for her involvement in the assault of Nancy Kerrigan.

Organised by Harding’s ex-husband and bodyguard, The attack was made in an attempt to prevent Kerrigan from competing in both the Winter Olympics and National competitions.

In 1984, The Huey Lewis & the News album Sports! made it to number one in the US for a whole week.
